The Benefits of a Great Bath

I have known for some time now that a good hot bath is so important for us. But recently I took ill and was simply not in a mood for my baths. Fighting a reoccurring cold for almost 10 weeks, all I had the energy for was a quick shower.
It seemed like the medication was fighting against me and my own body was refusing to get better. Then a week ago I just felt like a long soak in a hot bath with Dead sea Salt and Eucalyptus oil. I forced myself to climb in the tube and sit a while. It felt good breathing in the Eucalyptus vapors and the hot water really made my aches and pains seem to diminish a bit. Low and behold the next day I actually felt a small bit better.
I started thinking about all of my research I have done on baths and why we need them. I started thinking about how a salt bath or and Epsom bath are detoxing for our bodies. Epsom and Dead Sea Salts  are made up of the compound Magnesium Sulfate. Which is so important for our bodies. Magnesium helps keep  well over 325 enzymes active in our bodies while making sure that our bodily functions run smoothly. Our brain tissue, our joint proteins our digestive tracks are strengthen and improved by a good soak.
Not to mention that soaking in salts, baking soda, corn starch and other natural ingredients help improve our muscles and nerve functions, reduces inflammation and even improves our blood circulation.
So I think that once I started soaking again, using my natural products and hot water started to give my body back what it needed to help fight this horrible cold and even helped my medication be able to start working.
Every night I tossed in some sort of product of mine. A fizzy bomb, Dead Sea Salt, Milk Bath soaks, Bath melts, and a week later I am starting to come back to life. My body is not in agonizing pain, I can finally breath without felling like I need an oxygen tank and the coughing in now down to a low bark. I think I will always wonder if I had just kept up with my nightly bath, would I have felt better sooner.   I hear all the time..."I don't have time for a bath"..."I don't like sitting in the bath water"...and even "Baths are disgusting". Yet taking a bath goes as far back as man, and there is so many reasons we should be bathing and not just showering. The health benefits are huge and vital. So try to fit at least 2-3 baths in a week and watch how much better you feel.

Why Do Cheap Unsafe Ingredients Cost Us So Much?

So tell me Please...Why do the cheapest, crappy ingredients cost us so much? I don't mean just money, I mean our health. We are paying for products that are made with chemical  fillers and trusting that the company that makes our bath & beauty care products is looking out for our well being. The sad reality is that they are only looking out for their bottom line. So chemical filler ingredients cost them less and cost us everything.
I truly hand make every single product I sell, and I don't cut corners. I don't use water as a first ingredient. I also don't use filler to stretch a recipe. If my recipe only makes 4-6 products, then that's what it makes. Sure filler could get me closer to 12 products, but at what cost? Your health? No thank you. I tell my self daily...If I won't let my 2 year old grandson use it...then I don't make it. That simple.
Let's put aside for the moment the health cost and talk about the price tag. I am able to make my Bubble bars with SLSA ( Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetae), which is not a chemical. It is derived from Coconut and Palm oil. It is not linked to any health concerns and is 100% safe. Where as SLS ( Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) is a chemical detergent. It makes the bubbles in our soap, shampoo, bubble baths and more. It is used to be a cleanser in our face care products and worse...Baby Care products.
So let me get to the wallet. I use the real bubble maker (SLSA) and I make a bubble bar just like another company, yet I do not use SLS, and for some reason I cost $4.00 less. Now I get that I have no payroll, no large stores to pay on, no overhead and international wages to pay out. But I still wonder why a company can use the cheaper ingredients, call it natural, proclaim it to be hand made and stick a high price tag on it?
What is it that we are paying for? Are we paying for a product that works and feels good? Or are we paying for deception, lies and another persons happiness. I get that when you purchase my products I am able to pay my bills and feed my family from your support and financial backing. I guess the difference is that I get that you are basically backing my company. If you are happy, you will come back, if you love my products you will share with your friends, and if you believe in me I will grow.  So it only makes good since to make sure that I am making you a product that works well, fells amazing, saves you money and keeps you healthy. After all sick people don't have the money or desire to buy specially bath products.
Don't let big companies lie to you and cost you so much. Know what is in your products, know your ingredients and decide for yourself if the risks and bottom line is really worth your health.
I hope that you find that you are worth the better ingredients.

How amazing it is...

When I make a product with just a few simple natural ingredients, usually ones that I keep on hand to cook with, I am amazed. It is no secret that I am a firm believer in the All Mighty Creator, and when I learn what powers our foods, herbs and flowers hold, I have to step back and smile.
It just seems like it is all meant to be, the Earth supplies us with nutrients, it supplies us with important resources and it supplies us with the power to heal ourselves.
Our Oceans are filled with Sea Salt which is so vital to our body, skin, cell tissues and even keeps us from diseases. Plants contain properties that aid in Arthritis, Pain, swelling, and our health.
So when I make a product like my Apple Cider Vinegar ~ Rosemary Hair Rinse, I am Amazed.Apple cider vinegar washes away build up from shampoos and conditioners, Those that suffer from Psoriases will use Rosemary to reduse inflammation.  it even boost the immune and circulatory system, combats against free radicals in our skin and hair, prevents brain aging, promote  hair growth and is even being used in Cancer research.
This is why it makes since to use something so natural, so safe and something that comes from our ever growing Earth on our body instead of a product that is created in a lab with ingredients we can't pronounce and side affects that are countless.
It just seems to be the right thing to do. It doesn't matter if you believe that the Grand Creator put the plants on Earth, The Big Bang put the plant growth in motion or that our plants are just here because. The one thing we should all agree on is that they are a safe, natural and inexpensive way to take care of ourselves and our families.

Time to get back to Simple, traditional and special.

Even though I am a rather small contributor to the larger retailers at Christmas, I have always been a believer that the gifts should special and intimate.  I want my family to open gifts and feel the power of love come over them, not just the excitement of a new big item from the big name sellers. I guess because I had to be creative for many years while my kids were younger. I made gifts and found the smaller items that cost less, yet had a great deal of meaning to my child.
I don't want to let go of the feeling. I still want my kids to open up a gift and feel like I really thought about them and not just shopped of a wish list. I use to tell my kids that I want to find the gift that they never know they wanted.
Maybe that is why I create items in my store with that same idea behind it. I don't mass produce and I don't worry about making each item exactly the same. I have always had an issue being cookie cutter (although I do own probably 100 cookie cutters.) I really love that feeling of something unique and special. I think that a great deal of people feel that way. If you could choose, would you rather have something that millions of people are opening as a gift on Christmas, or something that only you will get, or at the least only a few dozen people will get.
I think we need to get back to basics in our own homes and family. Showing how something simple, unexpected and unique can really make you happy. Please think about shopping a small local business. Big stores and large chains are nice. But maybe just one or two gifts under the tree from small businesses that have that hand crafted and made with love feeling.

Halloween 2013

I love this time of year. It is the start of great colors, family holidays and fun. I don't really like the scary, gross parts of Halloween. Yet the pumpkins, the decorations and the candy is pretty fun. So I try to find the fun things about Halloween I love and add them to my products.

Fun bath salts for any age. Dead sea salt in great Halloween Scents, like Moonlit walk. A crisp fresh woods smell. or Trick or Treat, a sweet candy and fruit scent, or Red Hot Purple Passion, a sexy scent of love.

Even my Fizzy Seltzer Math Melts are fun for the Holidays. These spooky ghouls are just scary enough with their sugar eyes and funny faces. Drop them in your bath and experience a new kind of Fizzy bath bomb. This one gives you all of the pleasure of the fizz and then the skin softening affect of Shea Butter and Coconut oil.

There many more great Halloween Bath Gifts at Secret Garden Bath & Boutique LLC.
Please stop by my Etsy Store to order your gifts today.
Don't forget to start your Fall and Christmas shopping as well.

Face Care and Natural Products

So much of our confidence and self esteem is tied to our skin. When we have breakouts and other skin conditions, it really does drop our own feelings of confidence in the world. Today more then ever all you see are drop dead beautiful young women on magazine covers, build-boards, commercials and movies. Perfect skin seems to be important at any age.
Yet should we take a chance with our young children's faces and even our own and use prescriptions that  have side affects, or over the counter names that are packed full of chemicals?  After hearing so many horror stories about some of the dangerous side affects from prescription acne medications, I vowed to make a face product for my teens that was effective, safe and easy to use. Because let's face it, if it is hard or time consuming, what teen will take the time to do it daily?
The first product I created over three years ago was my Lavender-Honey Sugar Face Scrub. It has two sugars in it, Brown & White.
Brown Sugar is a gentle exfoliant. The sugars' will help lift off an clear away dead skin cells. Brown sugar has glycolic acid in it. Because of it's capability to penetrate the skin it is often used in such products like Facial Chemical peels. The brown sugar will help you maintain a healthy and glowing look. The glycolic acid is also known for helping reduce wrinkles, scaring from acne and darkening of an area of skin called hyperpigmentation. With the sugars I add fresh crushed Lavender buds and French Lavender Essential oil.
Lavender is known for its antiseptic properties, but for the fact that it increases cell growth and heals wounds faster, while it also helps reduce scaring from the wound. So when you can take two ingredients like brown sugar and Lavender, both which are a culinary favorite, and clear your skin with no side affects...Why wouldn't you?
I also have another wonderful face scrub, Almond ~ Juniper Sugar scrub. It only has the white sugar, but the crushed Almonds and Wheat Germ will help exfoliate Almonds contain Vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant which cause an anti-aging benefits. Juniper Essential oil is being used to help relieve acne, eczema and even oily skin conditions.
So I really do believe that you can help your own face or your teens face conditions naturally. There is no need to use harsh, scary medicines, when there are so many natural ways to treat and heal your skin. I am a firm believer that there is a reason for every plant, flower and food that grows from the ground being placed on this Earth. For Centuries these ingredients were used for  daily medication, personal hygiene, and so much more.
It is time to take back our and our children's well being.
Try natural , Feel and experience the difference first
hand.
Secret Garden Bath & Boutique makes safe, effective
and truly affordable products.
If you don't believe me and my four kids that use it, go
out there and ask anyone who does.  Post the question
on my FaceBook and hear what my Clients think.

Schedule, Re-Schedule and Try again.

I have to say that 25 years of marriage, 24 years of raising children I have learned how to make a schedule that runs like clock work. I did very well keeping my four kids on time to school, scout meetings, events and even birthday parties over the weekend. I worked outside the home for some of my children's school years. So it took a bit of juggling, oh, did I forget to mention my husband was in the Air National Guard and was gone A LOT? Now you see why it was important to have a strong schedule that worked well.
I am a mom that likes to have fresh baked snacks after school, and cooks three meals a day by scratch. I work hard at keeping my house clean and organized, I even iron my sheets, This is why a schedule is so important to me.
Yet I have to say that this is becoming something that I am having a hard time with lately. One child is out of the home, one is getting ready to get married and join the Marines, and the last two are in high school. My husband is retired and works a regular job where he is home now. So I thought this would be a good time for me to think about my own business. Yet this is not really the case. I just can't seem to get a grip on making a schedule that works well and is easy to keep on.
I have my one year old grandson all day, which after raising for kids you think I would find this easy. I guess the difference is I wasn't trying to build a business from the ground up. I make and create everyone of my products. I create the recipes, make the products, design the labels, build the web sights and run my own spa parties. I am an Army of One. So I am finding it hard to still do my house work, cook by scratch, run after a one year old and run a business. I make a new schedule every week and I find each one harder then the last. Sometimes I feel like making schedules are more work then just doing each day as they come. I often wonder how I ran a house hold of six, with me having to act as a single mother for so many years, and kept it all on track and organized. Now...it just feels like chaos more then half the time.
I guess it is trial and error. At some point this has to all fall into place. I am determined to make running a house, chasing a toddler and building a business work smoothing, on time and with very few hiccups. So I will sit down again and design a schedule that will more then likely frustrate me, and I will
re-write it until it just works!

Until then...I will enjoy being a Grandma to this little guy and always make sure is first on every schedule

Why should we take baths and soak?

So many people tell me they don't take baths. Some because they don't like baths, or some because they heard sitting in a tub is bad for them, and then there is the ever popular "I don't have time to take a bath".
Yet it is really important for our bodies for us to soak. Using a good quality and natural bath soak can help pull toxins out of our body. We are bombarded by toxins every day of our lives. It is in our foods, water, air, everywhere. They get trapped in our bodies and start to cause cellular damage in our bodies. Once this starts
the toxins will damage our cells and start to create free radicals. These free radicals will look for healthy cells to attach themselves to and start a horrible circle of damage, which in turn could damage or DNA, cause aging, cancers and more.
Now eating right can help you remove some of these free radicals and toxins, yet soaking in a bath soak can help too. Now to mention that it soothes our muscles, relaxes our mind, calms our stress and simply makes us feel better all around. Make sure your soak has natural herbs, minerals and fruit oils. Also Dead Sea Salts, Epsom salt, Essential oils and Vitamins are ingredients that you want. These ingredients will help purify your body, mentally rebuild your mind and spirit and even replenish your skins Ph balance, and could help such injuries as bruises and cuts heal.
Do your body a favor and find 10 minutes to take a bath with a soak of your choice. Even if it's once a week, it will help you recover. In this day and age when we down Energy drinks full of chemicals, fast food full of preservatives, smear chemicals all over our bodies in creams, soaps and lipstick, we need to take back some of our health and give our bodies something important back. Spoil yourself and treat your body, cells, muscles, skin, mind and Spirit to a few minutes of pure goodness.
You will be amazed at how you feel better and more energized.

Juggler of Schedules, Keeper of Peace, Finder of the lost and Creator of Dreams

I am not just a small business owner, I am a mother of four children, Grandmother of two and a Military wife for 25 years. I have worked most of my children's lives.  Sometimes outside of the home and sometimes in the home. I think I have done and tried it all. From Avon to Daycare.
Now in my younger years I have to say that long nights of work and early morning rushes may have been hectic, yet doable. Now that I am hitting 45 (this Year) I am finding that I am not always running as fast as I use to. There are days I stand in the middle of my chaos and feel like that world is swirling around me. Kids searching for something while screaming the ever popular "mom, do you know where..?" My grandson chasing me with the same book I have read 15 times that morning already, a husband rummaging through drawers looking for something he miss placed even after you told him 20 times to put it up. On top of the cookie in the oven being done and the stove buzzer going off, the dogs whining to go out and the business phone ringing.
By no means do I think I do more or work harder then the rest of the mom's out there. I think I just figured out this morning that It doesn't really get easier as they get older, it just that their needs change. My youngest use to want my time to glue an arm on a figure or tie a rope around a toy animal, now 14, he needed me to tie his tie this morning. No more dolls and hair brushing with my daughter, now 16, she needs me to pick up her boyfriend, take her to flying lessons and shop for dress after dress. My two oldest, 24  and 20 need me in different ways as well. My two sons call me for relationship advise, parenting tips and lots of "How did you handle this Mom?" questions.
I started my business 2 years ago, thinking I needed something, my kids where not going to need as much so I would need to do something with all of my left over time. Boy was I wrong!! They need me just as much,  even my husband, now retired from the Air Force, still needs me to know his schedule, keep track of his paperwork, remember all names and faces. This morning I was making 5 different Dead Sea Salt Bath soaks, creating labels for some new soaps, setting up a photo shoot of my Massaging oil line and helping my son (14 year old) get on his suit and tie so he could be Al Capon in a History Class re-enactment.
So I am here to tell you, they never get too old to need you. I have one that is getting ready to transition to H.S., my high school daughter is picking colleges to visit, my newly college graduate son just enlisted in the Marines and my grown son in Las Vegas, Nv. calls me three time a day, Oh, and retired does not mean he is out from under your feet.
To every working mother and Grandmother out there, just remember you are your family's strength, your children's role models and your husband's joy...You are the true Super Hero's of the world!!

Spring is Blooming and Secret Garden is Ready.

Here we go...the snow days are slowly coming to and end here in Colorado. My yard is starting to have green grass and my tulips are poking out of the cold snow. This is always my favorite time, Spring.
I am excited to fill the bird feeders and bird baths. To get out on my knees and start planting those beautiful colors of flowers, plants, herbs, fruits and vegetables.  Now I have to say that yes I do plant for my own personal love of using the herbs to cook with, and the fruits and veggies are for my family to have healthy safer choices, as the flowers, plants and even some herbs are for my business.
I use the Rosemary to make my Vinegar-Rosemary Hair Rinse, and the Lavender goes in many of my face care products and soaps. I use the rose petals in Sea Soaks, Milk baths, Fizzies and Soaps. I love that I am able to not only create amazing products, but that I can say "Yes, I know where those ingredients come from". I wish I wasn't scared of bees, because I would love to make my own honey and beeswax. So, I think I will leave that up to the Bee Keepers.
My business is always challenging me to learn more and think outside the box. If you would of told me three years ago that I would be growing Rosemary, so I could soak it  in a Vinegar mixture, then create an amazing hair rinse...I would of laughed at you. But I have to say, I am up to the challenges. Being a Mother and Grandmother has made me look at products differently. I want my family to be safe when they use a product...and now I want to share that feeling of satisfaction and pride with everyone I can.
So remember, when you order a Secret Garden  Bath & Boutique Product, you are not getting a mass produced item, you are getting a product made with pride, integrity and a piece of my own life.

Why Pay so Much for More Damage Later?

I have been really thinking about this for a few weeks now. My family is a "Three Generation House" for a little while, just until my son is done with Boot Camp with the Marines. So money can get tight quickly. As I am sure it does for a great number of families today. It is hard to maintain the important things like Housing, Vehicles, bills to keep things turned on and food. Then you have the extras, like things the kids need for school, extra curricular activities and God forbid something break or someone get hurt.
I have to say after a rather ridicules medical bill of over $7000.00 just to hear my daughter has an ovarian sis, and it will "be fine" as the over paid Doctor said to me, I realized that there has to be something better out there for regular families that live pay check to pay check.
Now I am not saying don't ever go to the hospital, but I am sure there are plenty of times it just isn't worth their carefree diagnosis and the mortgage payment you just made for them. There is a reason herbs, essential oils and natural ingredients were our very first medical relievers. They work! They have proven themselves for centuries and still are today. I have to say that I would rather put my pain in the trust of a natural, side affect free reliever then take many of the medications that are out there today. The side affects out weigh the benefits.  Sometimes I think they know if they create more issues, you will need more medicine, which really is a circle of harm and disaster.
There is no reason for this kind of expense, except for greed. I am personally upset, affected and even disappointed in the way our medical field has progressed. In a time and age when we are able to truly make a large difference in the way people are treated, and in the technology we have to actually cure diseases. Instead we have chosen to do more harm then good, put our need for praise and money before our devotion to help the hurt and contribute to medical growth.
Natural is more then "Natural" it is safe, it is simple, and above all it is simply what it claims to be. In this "Go Green", "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" and "Save the Planet" world we are all preaching about, Maybe using less over the counter relievers, fancy body products pumped with Chemicals and high price tags, and watered down bath products should be the first place we all start cutting. Who knows, maybe more natural bath, body and beauty care products will make you want to clean out your house of other chemically infused products, which could lead us all back to healthier bodies, less emotional imbalances, fewer childhood behavioral conditions and a lot less Over Charged Doctor visits.
Natural could be the way to save us, our kids, our families and our bank accounts. I have to say I have seen the difference using natural body and bath products has made in my own family.

Spring Bouquet of Scents

With the weather changing and the plants defrosting, you can't help but start to imagine the wonderful Spring Aromas in your mind. I am pulling some of my favorite Spring Scents to the front of my product line.
I love to take cool refreshing "pick me up" baths after a long hard day, so I came up with these AMAZING Fizzy Milk Bath Foam Hearts. They Fizz just like a Bath Bomb, yet they have an added extra creamy foam milk foam. They are drizzled with a little Shea Butter to add some added moisture to your skim.

These are the Lemongrass - Sage Milk Foam hearts. The scent is fresh, re-energizing and uplifting. I have to say just a quick 10 minute soak with one of these hearts and you can take on another 8 hours.
They also come in Apricot, Raspberry Vanilla, Black Raspberry Wine, Lavender-Magnolia, Lilacs & Violets, and Gardenias & Lily.   They come in a set of 4 for $6.00. Try them today and see what a difference a bath really can make.
Remember, that a soak with a fizzy is good for you. The Epsom helps soothe sore muscles, the Citric Acid and Baking soda helps relieve tension & stress, while the Milk , Shea Butter & Olive oil help rehydrate and soften our skin. Then the Soothing Aroma scent can calm us, perk us up, lift our spirits and calm our souls.

Do yourself a favor and SOAK!!!!

Locals Welcomed...Visitors Encouraged!

I have to say that there were a few things about living in Las Vegas, Nevada that were kind of nice. One of them was that there were always special deals and benefits for the "Locals" It was nice to go to Casinos and get local pricing on dinners, buffets and special deals on events. So it made me think about being a Local in Colorado. There should be some specials now and then for the people around me.
So what a better way to treat our Locals, then by getting rid of shipping fees. So soon there will be a showroom just for locals and Out of Town Visitors. I have always had products on hand for those that needed it quickly, but now there will be a room just for me to showcase all of my products as they are created, and locals are welcomed to come browse and buy without the shipping cost of ordering off the internet.
My husband and I have been creating, designing and improving the way I display my products. Soon you can come by and browse through the products, smell the scents and even sample. I am hoping that our Local Clients and out of town visiting clients will enjoy the Secret Garden Showroom. Just like all phone orders, credit cards will be accepted.
We aren't  up and ready yet, but watch Facebook, Twitter and my Web Store. We will be announcing our Grand Viewing Date and Special offers happening for that entire week.

It isn't just about luxury, It's about well-being & Money

I have been thinking a great deal about the fate of our nation and what affect it could very well have on my family. This is such a hard time for so many families, and even young single adults trying to make their way in the world. Paychecks just don't go as far as they use too, and there seems to be so many more required monthly bills then there use to be. I can remember when cable was a choice, not a have to, and cell phones were not even a around. With two children, and two young adults trying to make it in this world, I really do see the need for products that make a difference, work well and don't cost a bundle.
My husband and I have always lived on a budget, and raising 4 children has not always been easy on the paycheck. Yet I can say that because I have always been able to make things myself from scratch we have not gone without very little, and enjoyed it even more. This is what I want for my business to be for all of my customers. I want you to be able to purchase a $100.00 Spa Day in a bag, pay under $40.00 and it works, last, and feel amazing. With the way the economy is headed, I am sure that there is less money in households for expensive spa treatments, even just a mani/pedi is being cut out of budgets. With health care being so expensive, and medication on the rise, I think everyone should at least think of alternatives.
This is a great time for you and your whole family, even down to the dog to make some new choices. My products are natural, and I can honestly say that.  I am the one melting my bees wax and Shea Butter, I am the one measuring and adding the essential oils. I personally test everyone of my products on me, my husband, my kids and even my dogs. I want my family and your family to have safe, healthy choices in face care, shampoos, hand creams, foot scrubs, paw pad moisturizing bars, lip balms, and even men's products like mustache wax and after shave.
I have heard some really bad stories ever the last two years of my business. A massage girl in Vegas, that worked for a big name Casino/Hotel. Once told me she mixed Bengay & Vaseline together and would charge people $140.00 for a Muscle Massage. I had someone tell me she bought Lavender Fragrance and mixed it with Baby Oil and sold it for $40.00 for a 2oz bottle of Lavender Massage oil. I don't know if I am more shocked that people are so dishonest or that customers are less knowledgeable. I can guarantee that my ingredients are truly the best out there, and I study as much as possible to create a product that works. Not to mention my products last a long time. Which is bad for me, because my customers order every 6-8 months, but great for you. I figured that my 4oz Analgesic Massage oil for pain and soreness lasts for 4-6 months, depending on the pain. At $15.00 a bottle, you are paying from 3.75 to 2.50 a month for real relief, not to mention you will use less over the counter drugs when you use my oil.
So for your New Years resolution, maybe you should give Secret Garden a try, Enjoy Luxury Spa Products, Safe affective products, A product that last longer and keeps some money in your wallet for more important things.

Happy 2013 to everyone!
